"Lisa Costa is no newcomer to professional baking. She trained at the Culinary Institute of America and did stints in the kitchens of Bouchon Bakery, La Boulangerie in Forest Hills and the Museum of Modern Art's Michelin-starred restaurant. But it wasn't until she was laid off from her job at Planned Parenthood during the pandemic that she got the push she needed to start her own baking operation."

About Lisa

Lisa Costa is a baker based in Queens, New York.

She graduated from the Culinary Institute of America, and spent time working at Thomas Keller’s Bouchon Bakery, The Modern, and Lafayette Grand Cafe and Bakery. After 9 years in the industry, Lisa decided to shift gears into the nonprofit / social justice / political realm.

Like so many others, she was unfortunately laid off from her job due to COVID-19, which became the impetus for her to pursue her dream of opening a baking business.

Part of Peace, Love and Dough’s goal is to give back to the community, particularly the Queens community, even if it’s in a small way. Queens was particularly hard-hit by COVID-19, and many Queens residents not only lost their jobs, but are also food insecure. While significant progress has been made against the virus, economic uncertainty and food insecurity will likely to continue for some time. Lisa’s hope is to find a small way to use her baking to contribute to a better, more just world. She looks forward to baking for you!
